Dutch snacks
During a full day of singing and dancing at a festival you need energy and nutrients. Especially the salt, or sodium content, in your body suffers. Eating some salty fries is an ideal way to restore your sodium level. During alcohol consumption many people are in the mood for fast food, such as fries, hamburgers or a frikandel. Why this is? Scientists don't have an answer yet either. What we do know is that Dutch snacks such as a French fries with mayo, the Dutch ‘kroket’ and ‘frikandel’ should not be missing from the list of food and drinks at a Dutch festival.
More than beer and wine
Do you think of lukewarm beer and wine mixed with water when you think of a festival? Fortunately, nowadays you have a lot more choice at big festivals. Think for example of a special cocktail or gin tonic bar where you can enjoy these drinks until late at night. By the way, did you know that Dutch special beers have their own festivals dedicated to them? At these festivals you can enjoy your favourite special beers from the local brewers.
Organic snacks
The food at festivals doesn't have to be just greasy. In fact, healthy food and organic snacks are a trend. Because of this, we see that more and more organic snacks can be found at Dutch festivals nowadays. In Utrecht at the liberation festival, for example, organic poffertjes were sold last year. Poffertjes are of course also a Dutch classic that should not be missed. Pinkpop went one step further with all kinds of organic fish and fresh fruit. Good food has become a part of the Dutch festival experience!
