Every third Sunday of June we are celebrating Father's Day in the Netherlands. This means that next Sunday 21 June it will be Father's Day again. We use this day to thank our fathers. The fathers are treated with a breakfast or bed or are given different gifts from their children. Father's Day is not only meant for your biological father, but also for everyone who has taken on the father role. For example, this can also be a stepfather. Father's Day worldwide
In the Netherlands we celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June. Just like in the Netherlands the fathers in many different countries are celebrated on the same date as here. Yet Father's Day is not celebrated on the same day worldwide, even close to home this date is different. The Belgians, for example, do not celebrate Father's Day on the third, but on the second Sunday of June. By the way, June is a very popular month to celebrate Father's Day. The Danes celebrate Father's Day on the fifth of June and the Swiss on the first Sunday of this month. The Belgians on the second Sunday of June, the Dutch on the third Sunday and the Polish fathers on the 23rd of June.
In the Dominican Republic they celebrate Father's Day a month later, on the last Sunday of July. The next month it is Taiwan's turn to put the fathers in the spotlight. In Brazil, Father's Day is also celebrated in August. Australia and New Zealand celebrate their fathers on the first Sunday of September and in Luxembourg on 3 October.
